On the one side DC cinematic universe movies prodution are in full speed and other side DC and WB animations planning to debut Aquaman in DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation’s new animated movie Justice League: Throne of Atlantis Before Jason Momoa bring to the role into reel life.
Throne of Atlantis follow-up to the story first introdudced in Justice League: War, the important point for the animated adaptation of DC Comics’ New 52 continuity. In War, we saw the formation of the Justice League as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Shazam, and Cyborg came together to fight against the invasion by Darkseid, but Aquaman who is present in the comic book origin of the New 52′s League – was completely absent.
We now know that implied slight was anything but, with the studio holding off on bringing Aquaman into the mix, waiting instead for the second arc from the New 52 Justice League series (featuring Aquaman’s half-brother, Orm, leading an army of Atlanteans in an attack against the surface) to act as a backdrop for Aquaman’s origin. Otherwise, his origin appears to remain mostly unchanged. Still the son of a human lighthouse keeper and an Atlantean queen, it’ll be up to Arthur to unify both worlds.
What this trailer revealing, however, changed role for Mera (voice given by Sumalee Montano) will play in the film. The trailer gives the impression that she arrives from Atlantis finding Arthur at the request of his mother, but recently in comics, Mera was actually from an Atlantean penal colony, Xebel and she was sent to assassinate Arthur, instead falling in love and later becoming his queen (while still remaining a formidable warrior).
Still have to wait for what exact changes, they have made to both Arthur and Mera’s origins in Throne of Atlantis, but it's possible that origin story will be identically used for DC Cinematic debut of Aquamant. As in early lasts DC/WB have cleared that cinema DC universe will not have any connection to TV series of DC comics, but none have said about DC animation movie-verse till date and role it could play in complete DC future.
Throne of Atlantis also stars Jason O’Mara as Batman, Christopher Gorham, Sean Astin, Shemar Moore and Steven Blum reprise their respected roles from Justice League: War, while Nathan Fillion reprises his role as Green Lantern / Hal Jordan from Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Sean Patrick Thomas as Cyborg, and Sam Witwer as Orm.
It’s directed by Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender) from a script by Heath Corson (Batman: Assault on Arkham), with James Tucker (Batman: Brave and the Bold) producing.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will release on Blu-ray/DVD on January 27th, 2015 and about digital download, it will be updated.
