6 movies audience looking forward to last month of year:
Exodus: Gods and Kings (Release Date: December 12th)
Exodus: Gods and Kings is an upcoming Biblically-inspired epic directed by Ridley Scott and written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, Steven Zaillian and Jeffrey Caine. The film stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, and Ben Kingsley. It is an interpretation of the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt as led by Moses and related in the Old Testament Book of Exodus.
Two man's director Ridley Scott and star Christian Bale holds Exodus: Gods and Kings otherwise it might be an easy pass for most moviegoers. Trailers thus far have done average work, and the hot recent whitewashing controversy has drawn the wrong type of attention. Then again, there’s plenty out there who are unaware of the controversy and will be intrigued by the film because of its cast and crew. And for the rest of us, it’s hard to deny the curiosity.
Then there’s recent trend with big budget biblical epics. They may have gone over huge in the past, but as of late they haven’t had a good track record, especially those that take significant liberties with the source material. Sure, they still can make a decent chunk of change, but not enough to justify the risk. Can this one break the mold?

Inherent Vice (Limited Release Date: December 12th)

Inherent Vice is a 2014 American crime comedy-drama film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Pynchon. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Jena Malone, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short. It is the first feature film adapted from a work by Pynchon. The film premiered at the 2014 New York Film Festival
As if that wasn’t enough, Anderson has taken to adapting the work of Thomas Pynchon for Inherent Vice. Granted, this story, which has a psychedelic noir feel, is no Gravity’s Rainbow or Infinite Jest, but it will be interesting to see such a well-regarded auteur tackle the material.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (Release Date: December 17th)

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is an upcoming 2014 epic fantasy adventure film, directed by Peter Jackson and written by Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Guillermo del Toro. It will be the third and final installment in hobbit.
After three Lord of the Rings and two Hobbit movies, Peter Jackson is finally ready to finish a decade-long journey with The Battle of the Five Armies, his final adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s library. It’s also fans’ last trip to Middle-earth, and for that reason alone this is easily the most anticipated film of the month and year. Yeap, there have been some bad-steps along the way, but it’s hard to imagine people passing up an opportunity to finish out the trilogy.
The Battle of the Five Armies also sets the stage for The Lord of the Rings, which could be a completely new draw for fans that bailed somewhere between An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug. The movie stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch and Orlando Bloom.

The Interview is an upcoming 2014 American action comedy film directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen from a screenplay by Dan Sterling. The film stars Rogen and James Franco and is set to be released on December 25, 2014.
Granted, The Interview doesn’t appear to have the endless celebrity cameos that the box office hit This is the End had, but Rogen and Franco could prove to be more than enough.

Unbroken (Release Date: December 25th)

Unbroken is a 2014 American war drama film produced and directed by Angelina Jolie based on the 2010 nonfiction book by Laura Hillenbrand, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. The film, which revolves around the life of Olympic athlete Louis "Louie" Zamperini, stars Jack O'Connell as Zamperini with Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund, and Domhnall Gleeson.
The film had its world premiere in Sydney on November 17, 2014 and is scheduled for a wide release in the United States on Christmas Day 2014.
Unbroken may be Oscar bait, but that doesn’t mean the film won’t be entertaining. It’s oftentimes the unknown true stories that make for the best movies, and Louis Zamperini has quite the story.
