As detailed on the fictional company’s about page, Masrani Global acquired InGen Technologies in 1997, shortly after the death of its founder John Hammond. Hammond, the visionary businessman who originally came up with the idea for a dinosaur amusement park, was said to be in dire physical straits prior to the catastrophic events of The Lost World, and it now appears to be official series canon that he passed away not long after that film took place.
With Masrani now in full control of InGen’s technology, the company set out to realize Hammond’s dream, and began constructing Jurassic World on Isla Nublar – the setting of the original Jurassic Park – in 2002. Sparing no expense, Masrani Global spent over $1 billion on Jurassic World’s construction, with the park opening its doors in 2005. In its first month of operation, nearly 100,000 visitors traveled from all the over the world to see the breathtaking biological attractions up close and personal.
The T-Rex that rampaged through San Diego at the end of The Lost World clearly wasn’t a deterrent to humanity’s eternal fascination with dinosaurs.
